What's in it for me?

Have you ever had to have a locksmith come out to rekey your home or make a car key after you lost yours at the lake? Many of us have, in fact these are two of the most common services that we provide.

Quite often it seems that the caller gets a case of sticker shock when they ask for a quote. We often hear that the dealer is cheaper or the caller wants to bring the item into the shop. I'd like to take the opportunity to talk about both scenarios.

When we quote a price on car keys, the dealer is sometimes cheaper, let me explain why. The dealer has the equipment to make you a new car key. They have the equipment to program that key (most keys are now transponders and communicate with the cars computer). When you get a quote from them, they are quoting the price to make the key, and program it to work your car, and that's it. It's your responsibility to get the car to them and that requires towing the vehicle. That adds to your cost. If the tow company damages your vehicle while towing, that adds to your cost and delays your efforts. Also, you'll have to wait for the tow truck to arrive, hook up and tow your car. Then at the dealer, you'll have to wait for them to get to your car and complete the job.

That's where the difference is. When you call a us, we come to you! Our price covers the truck coming to your car, and the locksmith making a new key and programming it to operate your vehicle. Once we're done, you're on your way. You just saved the time, expense and hassle of waiting, towing, waiting, getting the key made and finally being able to go about your business.

The most common request for shop work is for rekeying locks. Lock It Up is a mobile only service. There is no dealer to go to here, but the concept is similar and we want to compare apples to apples right? Again you have to weigh the benefits against the drawbacks. The benefit to having us come to your home is that you don't have to do any work, you don't have to leave your easy chair, and you don't have to worry about messing anything up or losing any parts! The drawback is that you have to pay for that service. For some folks, those reasons are enough to justify having a service technician come to them, for others it's purely a financial decision.

Whatever the case, it's up to you! Good luck and we'd love the opportunity to serve you!
